Why the Victorian Transport Association is ‘worried’ about road repairs

Victoria’s regional roads are still in a state of disrepair after serious flooding and there are concerns about how repairs are being prioritised.

Roadworks on the Calder Freeway between Mt Macedon and Kyneton have caused delays for the past month and the busy highway will be restricted to just one lane indefinitely, with the Department of Transport unable to say when roadworks will be completed.

CEO of the Victorian Transport Association, Peter Anderson, says more works need to be done urgently, and the state government should be transparent about how it is prioritising repairs.

“We’re worried that the attention is more on potholes than actually restructuring some of these roads that have been destroyed by the floods,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“How are they prioritised and what’s the actual timeframe for the repair process?”

Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan says there are 520 roads still closed across the state due to flood damage.
