A women’s sport advocate says there is no reason why female players shouldn’t play five-set tennis matches at the Australian Open.

Prizemoney for winning the women’s draw is the same as winning the men’s, yet women only play three sets per match at most.

Sarah du Plessis, who used to play tennis competitively, told Tom Elliott said women wanted to test themselves in the same manner as men.

“They want a crack at five sets,” she said.

“I feel this topic comes up every year.”
