Australia is currently in a “huge” deficit for mechanics, with the CEO of the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) Geoff Gwilym explaining why this is the case.

Press PLAY to hear why there is a shortage of mechanics

“There is a huge shortage,” Mr Gwilym told Neil Mitchell.

“I think what happened there during COVID is a lot of people stopped, they thought about what they were doing, and they said I’m going to do something different, and a whole lot of people just bled out of these industries.”

Mr Gwilym says the VACC are promoting apprentices to entice more mechanics back into the job.

“I think we’re going to see an upswing in the amount of kids that come into trades,” Mr Gwilym claimed.
