Why there is a shortage of police officers in the state

Deputy Commissioner of Regional Operations at Victoria Police, Rick Nugent, has explained why there is currently a shortage of police officers in the state.

It comes after police union boss Wayne Gatt spoke on the lack of resources at the disposal of Victoria Police at the moment, leading to a concerning amount of unsolved crimes.

The deputy commissioner claims they are “recruiting madly” but admits “it is a struggle when you’re losing people at the same time as bringing people in through the front door.”
