Treasurer Jim Chalmers has explained why there was no extra funding for the Suburban Rail Loop in the federal budget last night.

It had been hoped the Commonwealth would increase it’s commitment to the $34 billion project, having already committed $2.2 billion.

But Chalmers told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings he has to see “value for money”.
