Why this university says the pension age will need to increase

Jacqui Felgate

A report from Macquarie University’s Business School has found Australia’s pension age will need to keep increasing up to age 70 by 2050.

Social researcher at McCrindle, Mark McCrindle, told Tom Elliott the report is “responding to the demographic realities”.

“Even the shift to 67 was sort of surprising at the time, but because they gave so much time, it was 2009 they announced it, it didn’t cause the dramas, I think if they were to talk about raising it to 70 and do that the next decade there’d be big problems.
