Why thousands of young Victorians can’t get mental health care

Thousands of young Victorians are being denied mental health care as waiting times stretch up to 60 days, new data has revealed.

Senior mental health workers warn “some of these people will die” as demand spirals for help on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.

In Melbourne’s north-west alone, 562 young people are waiting for appointments at Headspace centres.

The situation is even worse in regional areas.
