Why Tom Elliott fears for the future of diesel powered utes and SUVs in Australia

Tom Elliott has voiced his concerns for the future of diesel powered utes and SUVs in Australia following the federal government’s new emission standards policy which will start next year.

The federal government wants to see a 60 per cent cut in emissions from all the car manufacturers by 2030, a target which the 3AW Mornings host thinks could see the popular vehicles “pretty much banned” from Australian roads.

Elliott says there may be electric equivalents of utes and SUVs, but will got give the same experience as their diesel counterparts.

CEO of Electric Vehicle Council, Behyad Jafari, then joined the program and said the federal government’s new emission standards policy will not be the end of the diesel powered ute and SUV.

“To be honest, electric utes aren’t ready to completely take over the ute market, but importantly that’s not what government is proposing here,” Mr Jafari told Tom Elliott.
