Tom Elliott has questioned whether Australians are “ashamed” of the national flag to open his program on Wednesday morning.

It comes after the 3AW Mornings host was sent a picture of a kindergarten pamphlet on the Mornington Peninsula which had multiple flags on it, but not the Australian flag.

“For some reason in Australia we debate the existence of our flag,” he said.

Press PLAY to hear him question why there isn’t more pride in the Australian flag

Councillor Bruce Ranken from the Mornington Peninsula Shire raised the issue last night, and labelled the pamphlet “appalling” on 3AW Mornings.

“I’d like to believe that it’s an oversight rather than intentional,” Councillor Ranken told Tom Elliott.

Press PLAY take exception to the pamphlet

“This really highlights the need for clear guidelines and boundaries about how councillors and institutions chooses to represent itself, and our community through the display of flags.

“The community is really talking about this, it’s front and centre of mind at the moment.”
