Why Tom Elliott thinks free public transport should be on the cards (and an expert reveals if it’s plausible)

Tom Elliott has raised the idea of making it free to travel on public transport to get more people using the services, after he noticed it was cheaper to travel by Uber than by tram.

“The Uber was quicker, and it was cheaper!” he said.

Spokesperson for the Public Transport User Association, Daniel Bowen says while there would be cost saving, it would still result in significant debt.

“What we know is, mostly it’s about the services, particularly the middle, and outer suburbs where people don’t use public transport very often,” he said.
