There are concerns Victoria will lose its capability to host major events going forward.

There are no footy finals in Melbourne for the second year running, with the Formula 1 and MotoGPs also not going ahead.

There are concerns the Spring Racing Carnival will be the next event to be impacted.

Simon Thewlis, spokesperson for Save Victorian Events, said there was the potential for Melbourne and Victoria to lose some events permanently.

“What concerns us more is that we are in process of losing the whole industry that puts all these events together again,” he said.

“We did a survey of the industry in the last few days and only 27 per cent of event industry business think they’re likely to survive until the end of the year.”
