In 2021-22, Victorians paid an average of $5638 in taxes to local and state government.
The amount collected in taxes in Victoria surged by 24.6 per cent in 2021-22, compared to the previous year.
Independent economist Chris Richardson says larger states are “ripped off” in comparison to small states, and Victoria “consciusly chooses to have higher taxes”.
