Why you can see and smell smoke across Melbourne today

A planned burn in the Yarra Ranges is behind the smoke haze across Melbourne today.

Residents all across the city reported seeing and smelling smoke on Sunday night and Monday morning.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning issued a message about the smoke for residents in the eastern, southern metropolitan and northern and western metropolitan areas on the VicEmergency App.
