Why you could soon have to pay $50 for main meals at Melbourne restaurants

Melburnians are being warned they may have to pay at least $50 for a main meal at some restaurants as the cost of produce and worker wages continue to increase.

The concerns over the cost of eating out come on the back of another prominent city restaurant having to shut its doors, with Gingerboy on Crossley Street in the CBD about to close down.

“If you are not going to a pub or hotel subsidised by gaming or alcohol, it’s more likely than your local is going to have to charge more,” Deputy chair of the Australian Food Service Advocacy Body  Wes Lambert told 3AW Breakfast.
