The cost of milk is going up.

Coles is raising the retail price of Coles brand fresh and UHT products — blaming sourcing, transportation and packaging costs.

But United Dairy Farmers of Victoria vice-president Mark Billing says farmers won’t see much of it.

“We’ve got fertiliser costs have gone through the roof, we’ve got significant costs around energy, grain that we feed to our cows – all of those have gone up significantly, particularly post the Ukraine war,” he told Ross and Russel.

“There’s been significant cost pressure along the supply chain and we’re now seeing that retail level.

“We’ve had to pass some costs on because for a long time dairy farmers have borne a lot of this cost increase and it hasn’t been a significant move or any move at the retail level.”
