Woman, 73, sues Aldi after breaking hip during cheap TV frenzy
A 73-year-old woman is suing Aldi after she was injured in mad rush for cheap TVs.
The woman fractured her hip after being knocked to the ground by another shopper’s trolley outside the Aldi supermarket in Corio in August last year.
She required surgery as a result of the fall and her lawyer says she has “significant” ongoing mobility issues.
“Other customers walked around her, one even stepped over her, and other continued on into the store. Our client wasn’t provided with any assistance and dragged herself up, and had to get herself out of the store and off for medical treatment,” Arnold Thomas and Becker Lawyers principal Jodie Harris, who is representing the woman, told Dee Dee.
The woman’s lawyer says Aldi has an obligation to provide adequate crowd management.
“When an organisation advertises heavily and wants people to come and attend, they create somewhat of a frenzy, and resulting from that they really have an obligation to manage crowds and the emotions from such a sale,” Ms Harris.
