Woman allegedly raped, assaulted and held against will after getting off a tram at Fitzroy

A woman has allegedly been raped, assaulted and held against her will after she was followed off a tram at Fitzroy.

She’d been travelling on a tram down Collins Street between 5am and 6am on Thursday morning when she was allegedly touched and assaulted by a man.

It’s understood the woman pleaded with fellow passengers for help, but nobody stepped in.

The accused has then followed the woman off the tram at St Vincent’s Hospital, where she was allegedly raped.

A 49-year-old Flemington has been arrested and will face court on Friday.

Police are appealing for those on the tram to come forward and anyone who witnessed the assault to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
