A woman who nearly died after she was bitten twice by a tiger snake at her home in Victoria’s far south-west has issued a warning for property owners.

Ellen Zaunert was bitten by the snake when she was picking tomatoes from her vegetable patch at her home in Bolwarra.

She was taken to Portland Hospital and was then airlifted to Geelong Hospital where she stayed in for several days.

‘I was bitten once on the base of the thumb and on my pointer finger,’ she said.

But she said despite keeping the property tidy, they had become complacent, and she was lucky her children weren’t bitten.

She told Neil Mitchell she wasn’t in pain straight away.

‘I was trying to stay really calm, because I knew I had to keep my heart rate low,’ she said.

Despite the scare, she was lucky paramedics acted quickly and rest assured, she was back playing golf in the week after it happened.

And she won the tournament.
