Woman dead, four injured after horror smash in state’s west

A woman is dead and four others have been injured after a horror smash involving multiple vehicles in Victoria’s far-west.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Portland North on Wednesday after a logging truck and two cars collided at the intersection of Nelson-Portland and Westlakes Roads.

A woman from one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three others in that car sustained injuries, with one of those flown to hospital with serious injuries.

Crews worked to free the male driver of the other car.

The truck driver, a 59-year-old South Australian man, was injured.

He was arrested at the scene.
