Woman in hospital after unit fire in Melbourne’s east

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries following a house fire in Melbourne’s east.

Firefighters pulled her from the burning single-storey unit on May Street in Doncaster East, where she was found unconscious at about 3.45am.

The woman was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The blaze took about half an hour to bring under control.

The unit suffered extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and fire investigators have been called in.
