A Northcote resident says wood fire heaters in the suburb have been cranked up as the weather cools, polluting the air and making her life a misery.

Karina Kanepe wrote a letter in today’s Age saying she wants residents to dob on those who were misusing them to council.

‘Having the odd one with a bit of smoke wafting in the air is fine,’ she said.

‘But over the years as the suburb has gentrifed and more and more people are putting in the wood heaters the level of smoke has increased.’

She told Tom Elliott she wants people to be mindful of how they use them.

‘I think people need to know what wood they are using and know how to use their wood heaters as efficiently as possible,’ she said.
