Woolworths brings forward the date of its plastic bag ban
Woolworths will ban plastic bags on June 20.
The ban on single-use plastic shopping bags will take effect in its supermarkets, service stations, and bottle shops.
The Herald Sun is reporting the supermarket has decided to bring the date forward by 10 days.
Woolworths will begin phasing out plastic bags at 12 supermarkets today, including three in Victoria: Wyndham Vale, Taylors Lakes, and Toorak.
Coles plans to start their ban on July 1; Woolworths is in line to claim they were the first to act, potentially gaining more publicity in the process.
But Ross and John think it might fall victim to the Law of Unintended Consequences.
“We use the plastic bags as rubbish bin liners, now we’re going to have to buy plastic ones,” Burnso said.
Deakin University’s Trevor Thornton told Ross and John they may be onto something.
