The Victorian Government is having urgent talks with Woolworths following reports the supermarket giant is considering tearing up at long-term rescue deal for SPC Ardmona.

Hundreds of jobs in the Goulburn Valley rely on the Shepparton cannery.

There are concerns Woolworths could walk away from a five-year deal after just two years.

The state government provided $22 million in 2014 which was conditional on 500 jobs being maintained for five years.

Suzanna Sheed, the independent state member for Shepparton, told Neil Mitchell she couldn’t understand why shoppers and supermarkets would want to support cheaper foreign products.
