A man is on the run after assaulting another man outside an IGA supermarket in Carrum Downs.

Caller Russell told Tom Elliott there was a heavy police presence as well as an ambulance in the area.

Police say emergency services were called to Frankston-Dandenong Road about 3.15pm, after a man was left with facial and neck injuries in an assault.

The 38-year-old victim is being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police are searching for a man who they believe left the scene with a woman in a grey Ford Courier Ute with the registration UDE388.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being established.
