WORD ON THE STREET: Police investigate unprovoked train attack

Police are investigating after an unprovoked attack on a woman in her 60s and a young man on a Belgrave train.

It’s believed a man, aged in his 30s, allegedly assaulted the two passengers near Hawthorn station at 3.50pm.

Passengers came to their aid and held the man at Hawthorn until police arrived.

A Word on the Street caller alerted 3AW Drive after the incident. 

Police are at the scene.

Trains were earlier delayed.
