An Australia Post driver has allegedly been assaulted by two men on a footpath in Melbourne’s north-west this afternoon.

Witness Kerry told 3AW Drive she saw what appeared to be the postman and another man in a headlock on Keilor Road Essendon North at 1pm this afternoon.

“(The postie) was pretty shaken up, but he was fairly shaken up,” she told Tom Elliott.

“I don’t know what started the altercation.”

In a statement, Australia Post confirmed an investigation is underway into an incident.

“Australia Post is working closely with Victoria Police following an incident involving one of our posties today,” the statement read.

“Fortunately our postie was unharmed, and we are offering ongoing support.”
