Wyndham Council’s rewards-based strategy to encourage recycling

A western council has devised a rewards-based strategy to encourage recycling.

Wyndham City Council has introduced ‘reverse vending machines’ that spit out vouchers in exchange for recyclable material.

Users can receive swimming lessons, movie tickets, or go in the running for a gym membership.

Peter McKinnon from the council told Tony Jones the system aims to promote recycling and reduce litter.

Mr McKinnon said he’s happy the system benefits local businesses.
