The Yarra Ranges has reportedly received legal advice that councillor’s expense claim caps are ‘discriminatory.’

State Opposition spokesman for local government, David Davis, revealed the news to an astounded Tom Elliott.

Tom Elliott has vigorously pursued Yarra Ranges Council after learning the council was paying for a staff member’s child care.

Since then, the council has moved to make it harder for ratepayers to find how councillors are spending money.

Mr Davis told Tom Elliott he had been informed that the Municipal Association of Victoria reportedly gave legal advice to the Yarra Ranges that councillor expense claim caps were ‘discriminatory’.
