“You shouldn’t expect to get paid” | Clash erupts over charity muggers on 3AW Drive

A fiery debate has erupted on 3AW Drive over charity muggers.

They’re a bug bear of Tom Elliott’s.

“When I donate money to a charity – I want as much of it, if not all, to go to the charity,” he explained.

“If you’re giving money, the person collecting it should be doing it because they love the charity.

“I don’t believe charities should be treated like a business.

“You shouldn’t expect to get paid for it.”

However, journalist Gary Nunn, a former charity industry worker, said that wasn’t workable.

“Not many people can afford to give up their time for free and it would mean the charity raises less money,” he said.
