As bodies were still being removed from the site of the San Bernardino shooting massacre, US politicians had a chance to take a stand against the gun violence that has killed hundreds of Americans this year alone.

Instead, they voted against barring gun sales to suspected terrorists – because that would be ‘un-American’.
