A man has been taken to the Austin Hospital with life threatening injuries after an incident at a house in Melbourne’s north east this morning.

Emergency services attended a house fire at Watte Drive, Macleod just before 6am.

Fire crews were able to quickly bring the blaze under control but a man sustained serious severe burns to his face, hands and feet.

The 49-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious condition and a 36-year-old woman is under police guard in hospital.

The fire is being treated as suspicious but police aren’t looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

An 11-year old boy, who was also home at the time, has also been taken to hospital for observation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
