Young girl killed in horror head-on crash

A seven-year-old girl has died and a woman, believed to be her mother, is fighting for life in hospital following a collision in the Latrobe Valley.

The young girl was among seven people injured in the head-on crash at Yallourn North around school pick-up time on Monday.

The girl was flown to hospital in a critical condition but died overnight.

A 29-year-old woman, believed to be her mother, was also flown to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Two other children from the same car, aged five and three, were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the other car, a 49-year-old woman and two 15-year-old boys, also avoided serious injury.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
