YOUR TOWN: 3AW Drive visits Melbourne General Cemetery

In this week’s edition of Your Town, program producer Alyssa Allen visits Melbourne General Cemetery.

It’s the resting place of four Australian Prime Ministers, explorers Burke & Wills, billiards player Walter Lindrum and over 300,000 people.

The cemetery also has the Elvis Presley Memorial Garden, the only authorised Elvis memorial outside of Memphis. 

There’s less than 100 grave sites remaining, with a burial costing around $20,000.

Historian, Celestina Sagazio told Tom Elliott that night tours are very popular.

‘When we first did the night tours 20 years ago, people thought we were mad, 20 years later were still doing them.’
