Your Town: 3AW Drive visits Puffing Billy

YOUR TOWN: 3AW Drive’s program reporter Alyssa Allen visits the iconic Melbourne steam train, Puffing Billy.

The 116-year-old train is run by a volunteer group made up of 1000 members. 

Puffing Billy operates between Belgrave and Gembrook, it’s a five hour return trip.

Mike McCarthy, conductor at Puffing Billy and self-confessed gunzel, told 3AW’s Tom Elliott he really loves his job.

‘Being a conductor on Puffing Billy is real product of that, it’s just a wonderful environment with all the people that travel through,’ says Mike.
