YOUR TOWN: Anger over Yarraville parking meters
Yarraville residents and traders are furious with Maribyrnong council’s decision to install paid parking in the flourishing suburb.
And one councillor openly admits they got it wrong.
Parking meters were rolled out in the western suburb earlier this month, despite months of protesting from locals.
Elise Hopper, who manages Village Idiom on Anderson Street, said the move had already proved damaging to her business.
‘It’s affecting everyone’s business,’ she said on 3AW Drive.
‘What council is doing is discouraging people from coming during the daytime, which is a massive concern.’

Martin Zakharov, who is on the council, voted against the proposal but it went through anyway.
He said it ‘made no sense’ and was always doomed to fail.
‘It was likely that council would lose money on this,’ Cr Zakharov said on 3AW Drive.
‘There was no evidence that we would earn the money to pay for this.’
