Former AFL boss Andrew Demetriou says Tasmania has “earned the right” to have an AFL team, but ultimately the financial case must stack up before it goes ahead.

And he says the proposition it’s “now or never” for the the state to get a team is over the top.

“That’s melodramatic,” he said.

Speaking on 3AW, Demetriou also revealed what he thought was Tasmania’s biggest ally in making a bid.
