Tony Shaw says Peter Wright’s hit on Harry Cunningham proves that a send-off rule in the AFL will never work.

Wright is expected to be send to the tribunal for the incident, which saw Cunningham sustain a concussion and subbed out.

“So many people have been talking about (the AFL) having a send-off rule,” Shaw told 3AW Football.

“We cannot have it – the variation between the Peter Wright incident and Jimmy Webster (in pre-season), the thinking and technique. You’re going to have someone sitting up in the stand trying to take a bloke off…they just don’t understand.”
