Sam McClure and Zach Merrett have gone head-to-head on recent reporting around the Essendon captain’s future.

The Wide World of Sports host recently reported details about a post-season meeting between Merrett and coach Brad Scott.

Speaking at the Brownlow Medal, Merrett chose to confront McClure on the nature of the reporting and how it was perceived publicly.

“I felt that your article hinted that I was picking personal friendships over the club,” Merrett said on 3AW.

“That’s an interesting way to read it,” McClure replied.
