Founder and chairman of Beyond Blue from 2000-2017 and former Hawthorn president, Jeff Kennett, has explained why he’s against a mental health round being introduced in the AFL.

It comes after the death of former Eagles player Adam Selwood on the weekend, just three months after the death of his twin brother Troy.

“I’m against it, I think it is a knee-jerk reaction,” Kennett told Tony Jones on 3AW Drive.

Former AFL player and mental health advocate, Wayne Schwass, offered a different perspective earlier on 3AW Mornings, stating he’s been a supporter of a mental health round being introduced for a number of years now.

“I’m not saying the AFL needs to be the loudest voice in this, but it has a voice that should be at the table,” Schwass told Tom Elliott.

“It’s a missed opportunity if we don’t take the opportunity to do more than what we’ve done.”
