Melbourne defender Jake Lever is putting down a heated exchange between teammates Max Gawn and Steven May as simply a “heat of the moment” incident.

May appeared to confront Gawn late in Monday’s clash, before Dees skipper brushed him away in a tense moment shortly after their one-point loss to Collingwood.

“It’s just two competitive people,” he said on 3AW.

“In the heat of the moment, these things happen…I’ve been on the end of a few of (Steven May spray), I’ll probably speak to both of them as they’re both close mates of mine.”
