Matthew Lloyd has weighed in on Essendon captain Zach Merrett’s meeting with Hawthorn head coach Sam Mitchell during the week, which has led to a “nasty” situation according to the club great.

Merrett’s meeting has led teammates to come out publicly to the media to express their disappointment, with Lloyd stating the club captain has “certainly made a call” on his future.

“I just think for both parties now would be best if he wasn’t playing for the Essendon Football Club next year,” Lloyd said on Wide World of Sports.
