Essendon vice-captain Andrew McGrath says he has sympathy for teammate Zach Merrett as he continues to consider his future at the club.

McGrath told 3AW Football at the Brownlow that he’d support his teammate “all the way through” following a turbulent time.

“I speak to Zach as a friend, as a colleague and a teammate,” he told Eddie Summerfield and Shane McInnes.

“I hope he’s doing OK and as teammates, we wrap our arms around him and look after him as one of our own.

“We’ll support him all the way through.”
