Triple premiership coach with the Brisbane Lions, Leigh Matthews, has spoken out for the first time since the Lions went back to back on Saturday.

The icon of the game was questioned about whether the current squad was better than the team he coached over 20 years ago when they won three straight premierships.

“The team that I coached had six really good years … this Lions group already has had seven really good years,” Matthews told Shane McInnes on 3AW Afternoons.
