Matthew Lloyd believes North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin has been given a ‘reality check’ as he eyes a role change in 2026.

Despite being contracted until 2029, Simpkin has expressed his interest in looking elsewhere amid a lack of midfield time.

Lloyd wonders why the talk around the North Melbourne skipper has fallen silent as the trade period rolls on.

“We’ve heard absolutely nothing (about Jy Simpkin’s future) since it was reported,” he said on The Trade Off podcast.

“Maybe he’s got a reality check – other clubs might see (his the same as North Melbourne. Maybe people aren’t banging down the door for the money he’s on.”
