Leigh Matthews has questioned the AFL’s concessions to the new Tasmanian Devils side due to enter the competition in 2028.

With the AFL intending to keep Tasmania competitive in the short term, Matthews believes the Devils have to earn the right, like previous expansion teams.

“Don’t you have to earn your stripes?” Matthews said on 3AW Football.

“The rubbers about to hit the road when teams begin competing with Tasmania.

“You’ve got to earn your right, and the Suns and the Giants both had to earn their right.”
