‘It’s not right’: Police Association calls out decision to reintroduce solo highway patrols
Victoria Police could reintroduce solo highway patrols, despite the move being described as a “gamble”, which could put lives at risk.
Police Association of Victoria secretary Wayne Gatt told 3AW Breakfast hosts Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen budget issues could be to blame.

“If you had enough police in Victoria, you wouldn’t have to do this,” he said.
Opposition police spokesman Brad Battin told 3AW Mornings host Heidi Murphy single-officer patrols put lives at risk.

“I actually honestly don’t think it can be done safely, or it would’ve been continued when it was done in the past,” he said.
It follows the death of Senior Constable Tony Clarke, who was shot dead while carrying out a routine roadside breath test alone in the Yarra Ranges in 2005.
