Richmond forward announces shock retirement, pursues NFL career
Richmond forward Ben Griffiths has retired from the AFL at the age of 26.
He’s pursuing a punting career in American football.
Griffiths, who played 63 games, has been offered a four-year scholarship at the University of Southern California.
“This was a difficult decision to make, but ultimately the opportunity was too good to refuse,” Griffiths said in a statement.
“It certainly wasn’t something I had been contemplating and only arose two weeks ago.
“It was tough telling my teammates and coaches this morning but they understand and support my decision.”
