A gangland getaway driver is set to be the first killer to lodge an appeal over the Lawyer X scandal.

Faruk Orman was just 20 years old when he drove Andrew “Benji” Veniamin to Bay Street Port Melbourne in 2002.

While Veniamin pulled the trigger, killing Victor Peirce, Orman was jailed in 2009 for 20 years with a minimum of 14 years.

Orman was among 20 criminals to receive a letter from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the wake of the Lawyer X scandal.

His conviction was largely based on the evidence of Witness B, a drug dealer-cum-police informer.

The Age today reports his appeal will look at whether Witness B was encouraged by Lawyer X.

The same lawyer then represented Orman in 2007 and 2008 while a registered informer.
