Jeff Kennett says the current leadership at the AFL is in an “awful position” following a string of administration mishaps in recent weeks.

The league is once again reeling after being forced into an embarrassing backflip over how Lachie Schultz’s concussion was handled by on-field umpires last Thursday night.

The former Hawthorn president told Tom Elliott CEO Andrew Dillon was being let down with the lack of senior support around him.

“Andrew (Dillon) is having to do more and more of the work because he doesn’t have senior employees around him,” he said.

“The (employees) were around with Gil … they were able to deliver messages to the public and football family. We have the AFL in an awful position.”
