AFL boss Gillon McLachlan has hosed down suggestions the league is looking at a “best of three” grand final series.

The idea has been proposed by a non-Victorian AFL official, according to reports.

While he admits the matter has been discussed in the past, McLachlan told 3AW Mornings there were a number of reasons why it wouldn’t work.

And it starts with the players.

“Look at the grand final that was drawn in 2010,” McLachlan said.

“The players didn’t want to come back.

“That’s been a critical part of it.

“They get themselves up for that game, so to do that twice, or three times…”
